Dr. Anna Meyer holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (BM in Flute Performance and German minor), the Peabody Conservatory (MM), and Temple University (DMA).  She is adjunct faculty and Artist in Residence at Temple University, teaching applied flute and coaching chamber music. Anna took second place in the 2015 Myrna Brown Competition in Dallas, TX as well as the 2016 Raleigh Area Flute Association Artist Competition.  She is currently a listed substitute for many regional orchestras including Opera Philadelphia and the Reading, Delaware, and Allentown Symphonies. In January of 2019, Anna was the runner-up for the Reading Symphony’s Second Flute audition and actively subs with the orchestra in all the flute positions.

Anna’s love for teaching led her to write a method book for beginner flutists, which hit the market in August of 2019. The book, The Monster Flute Method Book, A Beginner’s Guide to Learning the Flute is available for purchase on Amazon. You can read more about the book and view some sample pages here. In addition, during the COVID 19 pandemic, Anna wrote a series of 12 pedagogical duo etudes to help keep her students engaged. These are published by Theodore Presser, and companion recordings can be found on YouTube or downloaded directly from Presser’s website.

Anna and her husband, Erik often collaborate on concerts of flute and organ music which has led to them being invited guest artists at the 2019 South Jersey American Guild of Organists Regional Convention and the Philadelphia Chapter’s 2019 Kimmel Center Organ Day.  They commissioned five new works for flute and organ and presented a world premiere concert of these works in October 2019. Their debut CD, Fantasmagoria was released in 2020, and features these new works. These commissions are immensely important to the flute/organ community as they drastically increase the number of concert works available to this unique combination.

Anna is a founding member of the Lyra Ensemble, a professional ensemble dedicated to bringing high-quality chamber music to audiences of all kinds. She is also the manager of the Marian Anderson Young Artist Program through Play On Philly, an El Sistema program which provides resources and access to promising young musicians in Philadelphia.
